SPADE initiated a program for introduction of low cost sanitary latrine at village Dhemai in the year 2000-2001. As a part of the effort, a few volunteers from the village were trained in the construction and installation of low cost latrine. SPADE provided an interest free loan to the beneficiaries to meet the expenses. Now almost all the households of the village have installed the latrine. This has brought about a revolutionary change in the hygienic condition of the village.

In order to facilitate construction of proper public drinking water system in the village under the Central government sponsored scheme viz, “Swajal Dhara”, the concerned government officials were brought to the village for field survey and preparation of the feasibility report. SPADE has emphasized on the effective participation of the villagers in the implementation of the work so as to ensure quality and transparency of public works.
A public body named “Brihattar Tetalia Anamoy Unnayan Samity” has been constituted under the initiative and guidance of SPADE to ensure complete sanitation and drinking water facilities in all the villages under the Tetalia gaon Panchayat, Kamrup. The plan of the scheme is to mobilize resource and execute the programme within a definite time frame with participation of people and other development agencies.
